Boot Camps Done…Now comes the fun stuff!

Now that boot camps for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade are complete I can start to spend time working on AWESOME projects with the students.

We have our Curriculum Night/Open House coming up next Thursday so I thought it would be great for parents to have some “how to” videos for the apps that their students will be using the most.

Then I thought it would be even better if I had KIDS create the videos!  So after sending out a mass email to all the 4th and 5th grade students I had a little over 20 kids volunteer to spend their recess time helping create the “how to” videos.

By connecting the iPads to MacBooks we were able to use Quicktime to record the iPad screens, which was a first for me and it worked great and the kids LOVED it.

Everything done in the videos was 100% students created, led, and produced.  You can look forward to learning about Explain Everything, Keynote, Book Creator, iMovie, and Popplet!

To hold you over until next Thursday here are some photos of the 4th and 5th graders hard at work!

Tech Tip Tuesday

It’s Tuesday so here is a quick tech tip that you can use with your iPads!

FIND IN PAGE ON SAFARI:

Safari has a “Find in Page” feature that is helpful for students who are looking for a certain word or section of a webpage. To do a search for words on the current page, click the address bar and type the word you are looking for.  Look under the “On This Page” at the bottom of the list and click the word to search the current page. If you don’t see this option, scroll down — it may be hidden by the keyboard.

Welcome Back!

Welcome back for the 2015-16 school year!

I’m excited to be starting another year here at Irving and am looking forward to all the great things that will go on this year!  Going into my second year as the technology/data coach I have a few goals for myself (and the school) that I hope to accomplish.

1. Show teachers little ways to have students use the iPads every day

2. Help teachers understand and use the SAMR model

3.  Start to tweet more frequently (and get other teachers to do the same)

4.  TRY and update this blog almost everyday (even if it is something small)

5.  Have a great year!

AND FINALLY, here is a fun cartoon to kick off the year in tech!
